Soon it will be even easier to pay for online purchases with PayPal, as the payment merchant just announced plans to bring its One Touch checkout system to the web, allowing users to checkout from a merchant’s website without having to enter their user ID and password. The service was first introduced as a mobile initiative to try and combat the high drop off rates in mobile e-commerce: while more than half of e-commerce shopping experiences take place on mobile devices, only 10 to 15 percent of purchases occur in the space. Those already using the mobile system are reporting a 50 percent increase in conversion, so merchants and PayPal are hoping to translate some of that success to desktop. PayPal’s OneTouch for Web is arriving today in the U.S. and will expand internationally in the coming months.
