Following the brief Times Square unveiling, Kendrick Lamar has officially released the music video to accompany his newest single “King Kunta.” Giving fans an insight to his origins, K-Dot sets his newest video in his hometown of Compton, cruising around different areas of the notorious Californian city. The video seemingly features a handful of his old friends, and includes a notable location at the prominent Compton Swap Meet. The namesake of the track ”King Kunta” was derived from the name of a rebellious slave in the 18th century named Kunta Kinte. Kinte, similar to Lamar, looks to be a powerful symbol of black resistance against oppressive institutions, however in different forms. Enjoy the video above.
