Shortly after announcing its UP3 fitness tracker at the tail end of last year, Jawbone stumbled upon technical difficulties with offering up a multi-sensory device that was water resistant for up 10 meters, leading to lengthy delays with its global supply. In an official announcement from the wearable technology company, it said “when we announced UP3 late last year we were confident we would start mass production of the device and begin shipping within a few weeks of the announcement. However, as we began to scale our manufacturing process it became clear that, while most units passed our high quality bar, a proportion did not.” To the frustration of many customers, this news meant that Jawbone was going back to the drawing to figure out how to deliver a water-resistant device to the market, however, it has been revealed that the fitness tracker will not be suitable for swimming or submerged use. Regardless, the Jawbone UP3 will resume shipping on April 20 for all customers who pre-ordered from Jawbone’s site, while international delivery is set to commence later this year.
