Last week was an important one for Yelawolf. The Gadsden, Alabama rapper released his sophomore studio album Love Story, a project he described to be a more “honest” and “passionate” effort than his debut 2011 album Radioactive. Listeners seem to agree with the Shady Records signee, with the LP receiving positive reviews from fans and critics alike. We caught up with Yelawolf at one of his shows, and he shared with us a minimalistic but beautiful set of Essentials. Shot on top of a flight case — which made an excellent impromptu backdrop for the items — he displays a few of the essential pieces from the costume he was sporting that night. Right in the middle is an original “Devil Slayer” hat from Gigi’s HatWRKS in Nashville, costume designed with input from the rapper. To the left and right far-ends is a Lucchese rattlesnake skin boot and a Schott leather jacket, two classy pieces that feature superb craftsmanship. He is also an advocate of jewelry, rocking a “phony” Geneva watch (which he found for USD$30) as tribute to the lyrics of late Houston rapper Pimp C in his verse for Three 6 Mafia’s “Sippin’ on Some Sizzurp,” a few rings, and Rusty Butcher chain wallet. While a majority these items seem to be out of the price range for the regular person, Yelawolf makes sure he dons a few mid-range pieces, in this case the Bible belt which you can purchase at his Slumerican online store for USD$65.
