Uber Acquires Mapping Startup deCarta
Transportation mobile application company Uber has reportedly acquired routing and geocoding
Transportation mobile application company Uber has reportedly acquired routing and geocoding startup deCarta for an unspecified amount. The acquisition was made in hopes to integrate deCarta’s existing technology and talent into the ride-share company’s expansive networks. Founded in 1996, deCarta provides a software platform which focuses on location-based features — including mapping, local search and turn-by-turn navigation. Uber hopes to fine-tune its products with the assistance of its new wholly owned subsidiary — for example improving the application’s estimated time of arrivals.
