The FIFA executive committee has decided that the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, which is going to take place in Qatar, is going to happen in December. December 18 to be exact, which means the tournament will be played throughout November/December with the climax of the tournament a week before Christmas. This change is due to Qatar’s sweltering heat during the months of June and July, which is when the tournament traditionally takes place. Not only will the 2022 World Cup take place in a completely different season, but it will be shortened to 28 days instead of the usual 32. FIFA must now rearrange the soccer calendar to take into consideration international matches that could be affected during that time. The decision comes after a FIFA task force recommended the 2022 World Cup to take place in November and December, ruling out a May tournament or a tournament that would clash with the Winter Olympics. The final decision made called for December 18, a Sunday and coincidentally, Qatar’s national day. Let us know your thoughts below.
