Super Bowl XLIX is in full effect and on the music side of things, John Legend kicked things off with a heartfelt rendition of “America the Beautiful” before the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots entered the field. For the much-anticipated halftime show Katy Perry stunned the crowd with a twelve-and-a-half-minute set with her most memorable hits. She invited Lenny Kravitz to join her for a rock rendition of breakthrough hit “I Kissed A Girl” before Missy Elliott — whose name was kept under wraps but was previously teased as an “old-school” female singer — came out stomping for “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It,” with Perry rapping along to the choruses. Elliott closed her section with “Lose Control.” Perry, then closed her halftime show by flying across the arena as part of a shooting star during “Firework,” as fireworks launched atop the arena.
