A rising photographer in L.A.’s hotbed of talent, Mattheau Abad, also known by his online pseudonym @badboi, has definitely found, and perfected his niche. Sun-drenched, scantily clad girls are his muse, and it has won him over 115,000 followers on Instagram. Born and raised in the Philippines before moving to Los Angeles, Abad grew up infatuated with hip-hop — music and break-dancing had always filled his spare time. Photography only became prominent two years ago when his friends submitted his work to agencies without him knowing, kick starting his career behind the lens. Preferring to shoot outdoors, Abad captures his models against natural settings, giving his work a distinctly Californian vibe, while films by David Fincher and Harmony Korine such as Spring Breakers continue to provide inspiration to his sets. Working with established models and up-and-coming beauties, Abad’s trademark style has become widely circulated both online and in print; from Tumblr pages to Sports Illustrated.
