Audio company Devialet has been awarded numerous patents and awards for its work in the fields of sound and design since launching its first line of amplifiers in 2010. Now it has released a self-contained speaker and amp called The Phantom, which comes with a price tag of $2,000 USD but promises to be one of the most advanced personal listening speakers in the world. Sporting a small, spherical design and WiFi connectivity, the Phantom employs advanced audio technology that combines the rich sound of analog systems with the small size we’ve become accustomed to with personal digital hardware devices. The end result is sound that is better quality than speakers 20x its size, which has been enough to attract such high-profile audio enthusiasts as Sting, Rick Rubin and former Beats Music CEO David Hyman. It looks like the price tag isn’t scaring anyone away, as the Phantom is currently only available by invite only due to high demand.
