Online Hosting Service Rapidshare Is No More

If you grew up in the internet savvy era, chances are you at one point stumbled across the online hosting site Rapidshare. The Swiss hosting service has been active since 2002 and has provided years of file-swapping ability for people across the globe. Although the site has been responsible for massive amounts of free downloads, persistent pressure from federal and international authorities has failed to shut the site down for 13 years. That is, until now, as Rapidshare announced via a posting on their homepage that the company would be ceasing operation entirely. On March 31, BBC reports that all accounts and or data on the website will be eradicated and all employees will conclude their positions at the company. While the site managed to stay alive for an impressive run, the company has been experiencing savage decline for a number of years and in 2013, fired 45 of its 60 employees.
