Last year Nike introduced its very first football boots to incorporate the brand’s groundbreaking Flyknit technology: the Magista and the Mercurial Superfly. While the two boots were designed with different kinds of players in mind — the Magista was crafted for creative playmakers while the Mercurial was specifically designed for explosive speed — both were created with a unifying goal in mind: ultimate fit, touch, and traction. Now, with these goals still in mind, Nike introduces NikeFootballX. Said Nike Football Footwear VP Max Blau of the endeavor:
NikeFootballX merges Nike’s pinnacle boot technology with design elements unique to small-sided football. We’ve met with small-sided players all over the world and they want the same performance benefits Magista and Mercurial provide, but with outsoles and colorways unique to their game.
Featuring remixed takes on the popular footwear and designed for small-sided style and surfaces, NikeFootballX incorporates recycled Nike Grind rubber in high-abrasion and drag areas for enhanced durability while responsive Lunarlon and low-profile Phylon provide superior cushioning. Furthermore, each boot will be offered in both indoor court (IC) and turf (TF) versions with outsoles that cater both to the surfaces and the underfoot play that often prevails on the smaller-scale pitches.
Debuting in “Street” colorways and complete with “X” decorations as a nod to the combined number of players in a game of five-a-side, the MagistaX and MercurialX will launch March 30 exclusively on the Nike Football App before hitting Nike.com April 1.
