Following the addition of the $250 USD August smart lock to the Apple Store, a new Kickstarter project has been launched for the Sesame smart lock, which undercuts its competitor by as much as $160 USD. Directly tackling some complaints consumers may have about hopping onto the smart lock bandwagon, Sesame boasts almost-instant installation via attaching to your existing deadbolt with 3M adhesive and a patent-pending self-adapting design, as well as nifty unlocking methods such as knocking a preset pattern on your door. While the actual unlocking process is done with Bluetooth, you can purchase a companion WiFi module and download an app to grant your friends access to Sesame as well. Battery life is lengthy at 500 days, and Sesame can be unlocked, as always, with your key. Having already reached its $100,000 funding goal, Sesame’s first units will begin shipping out to Kickstarter backers in late April.
