Debuting ahead of its public premiere in Geneva and promising track-level performance and responsiveness for the road is Ferrari‘s brand new V8-powered 488 GTB. Inspired by the 40th anniversary of the Italian manufacturer’s very first mid-engine V8 model, the 308 GTB, the new 488 exploits the full expertise of Ferrari’s F1 and WEC teams — where the 458 GT holds the World Championship title and has placed first in its category in the last two installments of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Thus, the 488 GTB employs a newly developed 3902cc V8 turbo that’s capable of unleashing 670 cv at 8,000 rpm along with 760 nm of torque in seventh gear, an accelerator response time of just 0.8 seconds at 2,000 rpm, and acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Additional features include Variable Torque Management, as well as an evolved version of Ferrari’s side slip angle control system. The 488 GTB also marks Ferrari’s most aerodynamic production model to date with a 1.67 efficiency rating that’s the result of a 50% increase in downforce over previous models — achieved via a double front spoiler, base bleed side intakes, rear active aerodynamics coupled with a blown spoiler, and vortex generators at the underbody. All of this ultimately allows the vehicle to lap Ferrari’s own 1.862 mile Fiorano Circuit in just 1 minute and 23 seconds.
Inside, new satellite control clusters, angled air vents, and a modified instrument panel — as well as a new user interface for the infotainment screen — are seamlessly integrated to heighten the sense that the cockpit is completely tailored to the individual driver. Usability was key for Ferrari, which ultimately led to a sporty ambience that also emphasizes comfort while utilizing classic Ferrari design elements like a clear separation between the dashboard and tunnel, a multifunctional steering wheel, control switch bridge, and wraparound seats.
While info regarding availability has yet to be disclosed, Ferrari’s 488 GTB will make its world debut this March at the Geneva International Motor Show.
