As Jordan Brand celebrates its 30th anniversary, the Jumpman takes us to Shanghai, China, ringing in the occasion with the highly-anticipated House of Flight. Playing host to AJ30, the Chinese city was the perfect location as NBA and basketball fever has reached an all-time high in recent years. Joining in on the celebrations were legendary Nike designer and the mastermind behind several Jordan Brand classics, Tinker Hatfield, along with Hiroshi Fujiwara, street artist Michael Lau — and of course, Michael Jordan himself. Set against the backdrop of Shanghai’s iconic Bund, we take you inside the exhibitions and celebrations commemorating three decades of the Jumpman.
Jordan Suite 23 — “Last Shot” Set within a stark white space occupying Shanghai’s Penninsula Hotel is the Jordan Suite 23, “Last Shot.” Highlighting classic scenes from Michael Jordan’s memorable career, the space also spotlights the latest Air Jordan kicks. Amidst all that is a stunning view of Shanghai’s iconic skyline as well as the highly immersive “Last Shot” installation, which features LED walls all around emulating the fans around the courts, offering a truly memorable experience for all basketball aficionados.
Jordan House of Flight — Michael Jordan Legendary Hall In another main venue is a special gallery of classic Michael Jordan photographs shot by Walter Iooss. Marking the first time that these images were showcased in China, the space also includes images of other Nike athletes. To visitors’ delight though were photobooths to recreate their own “WE ARE JORDAN” images. Additionally, the space served as home to Michael Lau’s “Wall of Jordan” artwork.
Hall Of Greatness For many fans though, the highlight was the Hall of Greatness. This space displayed a variety of classic Jordans, from prototypes to the extremely rare. Including historical notes and more, the space also exhibited iconic moments in Jordan Brand’s history — such as original sketches from Tinker Hatfield. Reflecting upon the 30 years in which Air Jordan has ruled the sport, each milestone is displayed in all its glory. The Hall of Greatness is a definite must-see for all Jordan Brand fans. If you happen to be in Shanghai, make sure to drop by.
