In an age where you can film in 1080p on your cellphone and pay $130 for an HD camera that you can mount on your head and take extreme skiing, people have the power to create high-quality videos at their fingertips–literally. Because of that, we’re inundated with the amount of music videos that are released on a daily basis; and because we’re inundated, the standards have raised. With that being said, it can be argued that a unique approach and execution are more key than ever. Take OnCue‘s new video for “No Way,” for example. In it, the Angry Young Man rapper takes us on an internet voyage that looks similar to how many millenials probably use their computers today, except with OnCue himself inserted as the centerpiece of the memes, websites, videos and overall experience. Does the concept sound familiar? Parodying modern internet culture is certainly no new thing, but OnCue and his director/editor/co-writer Hunter Lyon’s choice of references and attention to detail make this video stand out from the pack.
