In a surprise move from the French fashion house, heroic American author – and not to mention a total fox in her younger years – Joan Didion has been revealed as the face of Céline for the brand’s latest campaign. The Slouching Towards Bethlehem writer was hand-selected for the role by creative director Phoebe Philo, which fits perfectly with Céline’s terrifically elegant aesthetic. As Vogue writer Alessandra Codinha eloquently points out, the marriage also fits with Philo’s direction for Spring/Summer 2015, which drew upon the greatest hits from ’70s fashion – coinciding nicely with a high point in Didion’s prolificness. Look for more from this campaign as it surfaces.
