Fans of Judd Apatow and The Simpsons alike can rejoice now that Apatow’s 25-year-old script for an episode of The Simpsons has officially been given the green-light, and is set to air next week. Written at the age of 22, the man behind Anchorman, Pineapple Express, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin amongst other highly acclaimed comedies, initially wrote “Bart’s Friend” hoping to get a shot in Hollywood scriptwriting. The storyline of the episode is that after being hypnotized into thinking he is 10 years old and then becoming childhood friends with Bart, Homer refuses to return to adulthood. Interestingly enough, as Judd correctly observes, “The reason I brought up The Simpsons episode is because I realized while doing this interview that everything I had ever written was the premise of the first thing I had ever written. All of my stories are about people trying hard not to grow up.”
“Bart’s Friend” is set to air January 11th at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
