Elon Musk‘s Space Exploration Technologies Corporation — or as most people know it, SpaceX – just found itself a huge new investor. SpaceX confirmed that Google, along with Fidelity, now own 10% of the company with an investment totaling $1 billion USD. As reported, the goal of this deal is to support the creation of a satellite-based internet system that would bring internet to rural areas still without access. This hugely ambitious program would see hundreds of satellites orbiting a mere 750 miles from Earth, with the short distance resulting in faster internet due to shorter distance for electromagnetic signals to travel. Theoretically, this service would challenge fiber optic cables on land, while supplying internet to remote areas currently without. Let us know what you think about this huge investment and very ambitious goal in the comments.
