ESTA. is the talk of the blogoshere right now. With 18k Twitter followers, 20k Instagram followers, 99,900 SoundCloud followers and still no album release, the California-based producer is by design the definition of a self-made creative of the 21st century. As self-sufficient as he is, his label Soulection also deserves credit. Soulection and its impressive cohort of producers — think Sango and Carmack — has stood behind much of LA’s new wave of hip-hop, plucking emotive cues from the likes of pop and R&B and fusing it into their own head-nod renditions. 2014’s been a solid year for ESTA. who’s straddled his time with DJing, remixing duties and spontaneous releases. His set at Boiler Room London took the internet by storm, while poignant reworks to songs from the likes of Kali Uchis, Lai and Sam Smith, alongside stripped-back numbers tinged with West Coast flavor like “King,” “Marble” and “Time&Space” continue to show his sonic abilities. For his HYPETRAK Essentials, ESTA. shares with us a few lifestyle and music necessities. Beats by Dre headphones, MacBook Pro (fronted by a Stussy x Soulection sticker) and external hard drive are crucial for gigs, while garbs from BAPE, visvim and Native Sons are examples of his stylish getup. COMME des GARCONS Wonderwood is his scent of choice, while a pack of hair ties is arguably the most especial article here, keeping his trademark bun looking spruce.
