HYPETRAK Presents 12in12.: Chiefs - Crying Freeman

Each month 12in12. will take an artist from around the globe and let them tailor a track to support something that is close to them and through music raise awareness about some of the problems we may never run into in our day to day lives. Our first release comes from Melbourne-based artist Chiefs.

How did this track come bout and why did you choose it for your submission for 12in12.?

I was watching one of my favorite anime’s Crying Freeman and the idea came to work a few vocal samples from it into a beat. I was aiming for something a bit heavier with this track since the anime is based on a centuries old cult of tattooed assassins so I incorporated sirens and a few gun shot fx’s to highlight that *gun emoji*. I chose to submit this track for 12in12 because in an ironic way, the title and the intensity of the track ties in with the cause I have chosen to support and the conflict that they are trying to alleviate.

What cause/charity have you chosen to support and why?

I chose to support Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF). I feel as though there has always been a callous spotlight in mainstream media shone on the tensions in the Middle East whether Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Palestine/Israel or Iraq and there is little sympathy for the victims in these conflicts particularly innocent children who senselessly lose their lives. I hope that this project shines a little light on those suffering and hopefully more people will try reading up on whats happening.

What does your chosen cause/charity mean to you?

I just think about all the good memories I have as a kid and then I think about those kids in the Middle East who won’t have those same memories when or if they get a chance to grow up. Instead they’re surrounded by ruins and tormented by constant danger with little hope at all. This cause is purely humanitarian and provides relief to these kids.
