Not too long after stepping into an ambassador position for his city’s team, the Toronto Raptors, Drake has become the topic of considerable discussion over his unauthorized ”public recruiting pitch.” Drake’s statement entailed a comment about superstar player Kevin Durant someday joining the Raptors, and as such the NBA’s anti-tampering rules were broken. In response, the NBA issued a fine that could be fulfilled through the payment of a $25,000 USD fee, yet some are saying Drake was given the option of stepping down from his ambassador role in lieu of payment. The NBA has now denied these claims, retorting ”At no point did we suggest his title be removed but we were clear that as long as he acted as a representative of the team, he is subject to the league’s rules.” In either case, we’re likely to see Drake sitting courtside at the Raps’ in the future.
