JAY Z, Beyoncé and Solange Issue Statement On Elevator Incident

Earlier this week, footage of a physical confrontation between Solange and her brother-in-law JAY Z was leaked on to the web, sharing a rare peek at at the family’s private life through the lens of security camera footage in a hotel elevator. The video, which was leaked to TMZ on Monday, is a three-minute stream of Solange and Jay Z in a heated discussion which turns in to a physical fight, while Beyoncé looks on and a bodyguard attempts to calm the situation:

As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it … Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.

The statement does not detail the reason behind the confrontation, but does make it clear that it was a matter of internal family matters and nothing more.

The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false … At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.

The hotel also previously issued a statement apologizing for the video leak and noting that they had identified and released the individual responsible for the security breach.
