Adding to his “portfolio of self-initiated projects where geometry, light, mechanisms and interaction collide,” Canada-based artist Thibaut Sld has created “HEXI” – a responsive wall that reacts to nearby movement. Created with a series of 60 wall-mounted panels, the French-trained graphic designer’s “responsive environment” collects real-time data with motion-tracking technology to decode and interpret gestures made by a person at close range. The feedback is then used by the panels to behave in-sync with the participant, undulating and rippling for an effect reminiscent of some interactive object straight out of science fiction.
