Check out the newly shared visual accompaniment for Swedish pop sensation Neneh Cherry‘s burdening “Spit Three Times” track. The depressing Bafic-directed video finds the seasoned singer-rapper in a much somber mood as she goes on a backseat trip on a dark road into the unknown. Backed by her heavy vocals over this slow-burning piece, the video is anything but happy for the iconic Swedish artist who has much to be proud about after returning from almost a two decade break from her solo career. Earlier this year she released her long-awaited Blank Project, marking her first album of the millennium and her first solo work since her 1996 Man. In a recent email to FADER about the video Cherry writes:
“Bafic picked up on the intimate nature of my lyrics in this song. When I wrote it, I had been through a terrible trauma in my life (my mother passed away suddenly, which literally broke my heart and took me down down down into a huge black hole of despair). I am being very specific when I talk about the ‘black dog’ which was Winston Churchill’s name for his dark depressions. I am a fighter and I fought back from the edge of hell. Bafic captures this fight with his imagery, especially the flowers and the long motorway (freeway) underpass shots. I am very proud of this simple yet effective little short film. It means a heck of a lot to me personally.”
