Considering that Idris Elba is very open about his love of music and has performed a DJ set at the venerated Los Angeles club night Low End Theory, the fact that he’s seriously pursuing a musical career of his own shouldn’t exactly come as a surprise. Elba will be releasing a new music project inspired by his recent role in the Nelson Mandela biopic, Long Walk to Freedom, and has linked up with the several musicians to create songs that serve as tributes to South Africa’s rich musicial culture. The album will be entitled mi Mandela, and the LP’s first single, “You Give Me Love,” featuring multi-talented singer-songwriter Maverick Sabre, is available for listening now. And, if the soul seeping out of “You Give Me Love” doesn’t quite connect with you, the project will feature a collaboration with James Blake that should generate a lot of listens. You can check out “You Give Me Love” above, while mi Mandela will see release on November 24.
