Music Essentials: Chromeo

For our latest edition of our Music Essentials series, we caught up with the reigning electro-funk champions Chromeo to check out their selection of musical must-haves. For their gear, Dave and P-Thugg only carry a few things to broadcast their brand of modern, slick funk. The pair carry a heavy-duty guitar and bass set from Electrical Guitar Company, which they deem are “THE Chromeo axes.” For on-stage synthesizers, they keep a modular Portable-22 synth and a “reliable” Moog Voyager. A Korg MS20, Akai MPC 1000, Talkbox, Yamaha DX100, and a trio of Boss Guitar Pedals are kept around for all other musical purposes, such as the music featured on recent releases. Rounding on their selection is a notepad for Dave to take notes on during sessions and a container labeled “Dr. Kessler’s Vapors,” which holds “crazy eucalyptus menthol drops” for Dave.
