Following yesterday’s release of his Clams Casino-produced “Talk It,” Harlem’s Trap Lord A$AP Ferg announced that his Ferg Forever mixtape will drop on Black Friday (Novemeber 28). Ferg has been fairly quiet since dropping his solid debut in August of 2013, so we’re sure fans will be excited to know that his 2014 follow-up will arrive a lot sooner than expected. Here’s a few words from a recent interview with XXL regarding the mixtape’s artwork:
“My father’s name was D. Ferg as well, Darold Ferguson. He did a lot of stuff with the hip-hop community as far as designing the Bad Boy logo, doing the Uptown Records logo for Andre Harrell. He was big in Harlem and around the world. Basically, he had a boutique, a store in Harlem, and he sold Ferg apparel. He had this crazy logo that I kind of wanted to bring back into existence and just basically just like kind of do this project in his name. Since I’ve come out, I’ve touched on the subject but I feel like people haven’t identified with me being from Harlem and my origins.
So I kinda wanna go into depth about my character, where I come from, my family, ’cause my family is like Harlem royalty. Well-respected. From my Uncle being in the streets, my grandmother helpin’ out the community to my Aunt helping my father with the store and him printing shirts for Teddy Riley and Puffy and all these people—these were all his friends. So the name rings bells. And when you hear Ferg, it really don’t hit them, because it’s like, ‘A$AP Ferg, the new kid.’ But really it’s like Ferg, the family, the legacy. Ferg forever.”
