In departure from his bass pseudonym Drop the Lime, Luca Venezia continues to explore deeper strands of dance music as Curses. 2014 has been a big year for Curses after releasing on Throne of Blood and Let’s Play House in addition to starting his fledgling imprint, Safer At Night.
For his latest release on Ultra Music, the New York producer teams up with Safe At Night compadres DKDS on a hypnotic house track titled “Trouble.” Tapping former Azari & III member Cédric Gasaida — also known as SYF, Starving Yet Full — for vocal assistance, the track kicks off with a string of stuttering percussion, coupled with a brooding bassline before SYF’s falsetto seeps through, leading listeners to a poignant chorus tinged with ambiguity.
On the making of “Trouble,” Curses notes:
“This summer, SYF came to do guest vocals for a Curses set at an epic rooftop summer jam, and the energy was cosmic. The night continued into rowdy warehouse afterhours with the Safer At Night peers, DKDS. Curses, DKDS and SYF soon spent their breakfast at the SAN Studios and laid down what eventually became, Trouble – tapping into the magical energy of the night’s adventures.”
A powerful dancefloor number that’ll carry you through till the early hours of the weekend, enjoy “Trouble” here and stay tuned for it remixes. For more on Curses follow him on SoundCloud.
