Casa Chinkara by Solis Colomer Arquitectos

Located in a serene area surrounded by forests, the Casa Chinkara by Solis Colomer Arquitectos in Guatemala City is a truly unique structure blending primitive and contemporary elements. The residence was imagined as a rock set in the surrounding landscape and follows the form of the terrain. It houses an art gallery featuring a skyline, which allows natural light to come in and flow into surrounding areas. Furthermore the stone massing acts as the heart and center of the structure with various rooms constructed around it. During the day sections of the house seem transparent as the groups of red-framed windows expose the intimate interior, whilst at night the backlit structure looms large in its surrounding environment. Although the dwelling could be seen as a combination of separate sections, the wooden floors, unpolished stone and decoration are consistent throughout the space, and give the home a cozy atmosphere.
