Following fan’s responses to The 56th Annual GRAMMY Award’s move to grant Macklemore with the awards for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, Best New Artist and Best Rap Album, while California-based Kendrick Lamar went home empty-handed, Kendrick has now spoken out about his losses at the GRAMMY Awards and shared his thoughts on Macklemore’s victories. Speaking with XXL after his surprise performance at Dom Kennedy’s snow in New York City, Lamar acknowledged that the GRAMMYs could benefit from including more culture but also admitted “everything happens for a reason.”
[Macklemore's victory is] well deserved; he did what he did, man… He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go. I definitely feel like they should always have more [hip-hop] culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre. We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the GRAMMYs, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.
Despite his numerous successes on GRAMMY night, Macklemore has already spoken on the lack of GRAMMY acknowledgement for Kendrick, claiming that he “robbed” Kendrick of his Best Rap Album victory. Head here to read more on Macklemore’s message and share your thoughts below.
