A man synonymous with iconic record covers for bands including New Order and Joy Division, and fashion labels like John Galliano, Christian Dior and Stella McCartney, illustrious graphic designer Peter Saville recently sat down with Kanye West to discuss design identity for the artist. Saville revealed details of the collaboration at the Global Design Forum in London, where he mentioned the design would circle around the ideas of “Kanye West” in writing, referencing Yves Saint Laurent’s overlapping letters “YSL” as an inspiring motif – furthermore, explaining the design process to be a serendipitous one rather than a commissioned project. Having received this year’s London Design medal, Saville continues to churn out prolific designs with Manchester’s post-industrial identity seeping through his work and it’ll be interesting to see what the collaboration entails.
