The 2012 Grammy Awards marked a pivotal point for The Civil Wars’ career. After performing there and receiving two Grammys, their debut album Barton Hallow, which had fizzled since debuting at number 12, shot up the charts from 41 to 10 the following week. Buzz has only generated for the folk duo of Joy Williams and John Paul White since. With the release of their self-titled sophomore LP this week, they easily landed their first number one album by selling 116k copies. Robin Thicke, who claimed his first number one record the previous week, dropped down to the three position. Jay Z follows behind in fourth, making it his fifth week in the top five with Magna Carta… Holy Grail.
