MTV Speaks on Daft Punk's 'The Colbert Report' Cancellation
The saga surrounding Daft Punk canceling their appearance on The Colbert Report to attend the MTV

The saga surrounding Daft Punk canceling their appearance on The Colbert Report to attend the MTV Video Music Awards continues. It was initially reported the cancellation was due to prior contractual obligations between MTV and Daft Punk, but yesterday, Colbert went on the record with Paul Mecurio and claimed that the band was hoping to do both shows, but MTV wouldn’t allow it. Apparently MTV didn’t agree. Today in a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter, Jesse Ignjatovic, executive producer of the VMAs, claims it was in fact Daft Punk’s choice to skip The Colbert Report. Read Ignjatovic’s statement below.
We don’t put restrictions on anyone. I just think that we’re talking to them about a moment and then things sort of change. I would not describe that as MTV putting restrictions on people — it was up to that artist and their management what they wanted to do.
