Canadian songbird The Weeknd has released a new cut from his highly anticipated upcoming album Kiss Land, unveiling “Belong To The World” in the form of a music video. The track is thoroughly enjoyable, no doubt thanks to a sample from Portishead’s “Machine Gun,” which according to lead singer Geoff Barrow was not an authorized audio crop. Barrow took to Twitter to express his frustration in the matter, writing “when someone asks to sample you and you refuse they should have the respect as a fellow artist to not use it” in response to a tweet by Pitchfork. Despite all this, here we find The Weeknd in a similarly dark situation, with the obligatory – though unorthodox – video vixen haunting Abel as he navigates what looks like a street riot.
