Jay-Z‘s new rules were in action today as he received a platinum plaque from the RIAA for his 13th studio album Magna Carta…Holy Grail. This comes after the RIAA announced that digital sales no longer have to wait a 30 day period before an album can be eligible for certification. Jay achieved this certification off of his deal with Samsung alone, who purchased 1 million copies of the record before it was released. Hov is projected to sell 350k to 400k additional copies of the LP in its first week in stores, which means double platinum isn’t too far away.
After receiving his platinum plaque, Jay stopped by HOT 97 to talk with Angie Martinez about texting Obama, Magna Carta…Holy Grail, success, future plans, his recent Twitter Q&A, and a whole lot more. Although self-proclaimed as “busy,” Hov managed to spare enough time to get comfortable in Hot 97’s studio. Watch the in-depth interview below.
