Jahan Loh "Working Class Hero" Exhibition @ Chan Hampe Galleries Recap
Singaporean visual artist Jahan Loh presents his latest solo exhibition at the city-state’s Chan

Singaporean visual artist Jahan Loh presents his latest solo exhibition at the city-state’s Chan Hampe Galleries at the Raffles Hotel. Entitled “Working Class Hero,” the display showcases the artist’s Eastern- and Western-influenced takes on traditional pop art. Well-known iconography and pop culture references are once again reinterpreted and recontextualized as Loh shifts their meaning for further dialogue and exploration as the viewer considers the familiar narratives in new ways. According to Loh:
These icons drawn from mass media are not about getting instant popularity, but getting a connection to bring social subtleties into light, so that they may honestly be explored. From the superheroes that fight for justice in the comic world to the human heroes who make a difference every day in the real world, my new series of paintings are a record to the deeds of unseen heroes.
Featuring a bevy of mixed-media works alongside those in bronze, Loh’s “Working Class Hero” opened on July 4 and remained on display through July 28.
