Sangue — translated from Italian to mean “blood” — is the work of founder and designer Angelo Milano, who hand-prints T-shirts from a place he calls “a self-built, fucked-up printing studio” in Grottaglie, Italy. In Milano’s hands, the images and landscapes of Southern Italy — stone walls, rock faces, cloudy skies, rusted metal doors — are screen-printed with striking accuracy onto tees and shorts. Despite the impressive photo-realism, however, the garments are not meant to be perfect. Says Milano of the brand, “It’s the result of the obstinence of one person only, combined with inexperience, improvisation, and tolerance – if not quest — for mistakes.” Sangue’s Spring/Summer 2013 hand-printed tees are available now at our online store.
