Reuniting Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn and star Ryan Gosling is the upcoming crime thriller Only God Forgives. Shot on location in Thailand, the film sees Gosling as Julian – a drug smuggler who thrives in Bangkok’s underworld as his family’s Thai boxing club serves as a front for his illegal operation. Having gone on the run 10 years prior after killing a police officer, Julian’s life becomes even more complicated when he’s tasked with hunting down the individual responsible for his brother’s recent death. Gosling’s latest dark and brooding role following Drive and The Place Beyond The Pines, Only God Forgives is due to make its debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival – where it will compete for the Palme d’Or – before hitting theaters on July 19.
