Last week, Jim James stunned fans of his band My Morning Jacket and new listeners alike with an epic performance of his solo single “A New Life” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. To capitalize on his fast-growing buzz, the genre-bending talent has returned with the official music video for the tune. In the clip, we don’t get a full-on marching band like we did on ‘Fallon,’ but we do get quite an interesting piece of visual art. The first minute and 20 seconds are rather expected—a spotlit performance in a dim shed emphasizes the mellow beginning of the song. But then, when James steps out into the world and onto a winding dirt road, he’s welcomed by a dancing woman wearing a buffalo head, more female dancers clad in purple blazers and fedoras, and a whole bunch of doors that seemingly come from nowhere. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though, because he keeps walking out of them with more dancers. Does each door open “A New Life?” Who knows. There have to be some metaphors here; can you tell us what they are? Grab James’ debut album, Regions of Light and Sound, over at iTunes or his website.
