nonnative continues a foray into rugged outdoor-focused product thanks to the help of outdoor brand montrail. Resulting in the PHOENIX LEATHER, the original base model PHOENIX was a Euro exclusive in 2005 but quickly developed a strong following as a top trail runner. The PHOENIX LEATHER features montrail’s hi-tech Integrafit last technology and a Gryptonite compound rubber sole. In a similar approach to other nonnative footwear collaborations, iconic colors are utilized with a gray pig leather upper chosen for durability. The original production of Japanese-destined montrail shoes took place at a factory in Fukushima. However following the devastating Tohoku Earthquake in 2011, serious doubts were cast over the future of the factory. Through conscious efforts, the factory has reopened and the production tag now proudly reads “MADE IN FUKUSHIMA.”
