Best known for her unique take on hip-hop that does little to compromise emotion for an experimental, left-field delivery, Jennifer Lee, aka TOKiMONSTA‘s eclectic music taste spearheads her from other contemporaries. With a classical upbringing and an inclination for a vast texture of sounds, the LA-based producer effortlessly fuses timeless percussion with far-out samples. The result is an artful rendition that’s caught the eyes of an array of creative tastemakers, with hotly-tipped platforms like BBC Radio 1, Dazed and Confused, DJ Mag and Wax Poetics all showing affinity. Having previously been dubbed #1 Female DJ in Los Angeles, in addition to releasing under FlyLo’s Brainfeeder records, TOKiMONSTA continues to stand in the forefront of innovative music, engaging her audience with compelling live sets such as her recent showing at HARD Fest’s Red Bull Music Academy Discotheque Stage.
Hence, the producer doesn’t shy away from showing off a number of hardware from her live setup in her Music Essentials, while a Super Nintendo only furthers her penchant for analog gear. In the mix of technological goods, TOKi doesn’t waive her love for vinyl, presenting the Southside Movement “Moving South” LP given to her by her father.
