M.I.A. Documentary Is Back In Production

After suffering major set backs with back in July, it now looks like M.I.A.‘s upcoming documentary will be completed. With the project’s original director, Steve Loveridge, jumping ship midway through the documentary, The Hollywood Reporter now reports the highly-anticipated film is now back in the works. Now set to collaborate with the UK-based non-profit support organization BRITDOC, which will co-produce the documentary alongside Yala Films, the film looks to take fans deeper into M.I.A.’s mostly private personal life. During a recent sit-down interview with Pitchfork, M.I.A. went on to share the following on as why Loveridge fired himself from the project, which he has since rejoined to help finish:
It’s a weird film, and it’s not easy to cut together. It’s not like I have a camera following me around, documenting my fucking dressing room. I’ve documented a lot of things myself as a filmmaker. If you want a rockumentary, that’s in there. Then there’s a political angle, which is the documentary I wanted to shoot on Sri Lanka. Then there’s footage I shot when my brother came out of prison when he was like 16. And footage of this crazy mess with my personal life. They’re all interesting things you’re not going to get from a Beyoncé documentary. It’s just so complicated. I can’t even get my head around that.
No set release date for the documentary has been shared as of yet, but we’ll be sure to keep our readers up to date with any additional news.
