Alex Botwin, or Alex B, is known to produce a myriad of sounds under his moniker Paper Diamond. Crafting euphoric electronica that’s friendly for both one’s headphones and the dancefloor, PD’s discerning approach to music finds him plucking influences from Southern hip-hop, 120 bpm house tempos, and the ever prominent bass-heavy genres of dubstep and trap. Paired with an expertise in software and hardware production, one can only class PD’s sound as a forward-thinking strand to EDM, encompassing audiences inclined for both easy-listening, and forthright aggressive. Having released the Levitate EP via Pretty Lights eponymous imprint, PD’s latest signing to Mad Decent’s subsidiary label, Jeffrees, saw the release of Wavesight, an other EP that demonstrated the Colorado artist’s versatility.
While PD is often found globetrotting on music-making escapades, we managed to catch him in LA for our latest Music Essentials feature. Here, PD shows his appreciation for both high and street fashion via the Mishka beanie and MCM backpack, while he also lets us in on his alcohol beverage of choice — Patron tequila and ginger. Meanwhile, a GoPro camera and Polaroid captures all the antics on the road, and a Listerine UltraClean Cool mint keeps the producer’s oral cleanliness on top form.
