NOWNESS “Sign Painters” | Video
Another in the current short series curated by NOWNESS, this installment of Shorts on Sundays
Another in the current short series curated by NOWNESS, this installment of Shorts on Sundays features sign painters working hard on their craft. The series essentially explores the great American creative tradition on film, and this piece is a specially edited feature-length documentary shot by Sam Macon and Faythe Levine. Filmed across several states including Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and Minnesota, the short film presents an intimate look at the unsung art of hand-lettered sign painting. It also offers a different perspective on the trade–“Not only were there a lot of working sign painters out there, there’s a tendency towards them being wonderful storytellers.” See here for a short interview with Sam Macon.
