In case you didn’t know — or have forgotten — Los Angeles collective The Pharcyde was one of the most influential hip-hop groups during the early ’90s. Their first two albums Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde and Labcabincalifornia have pushed the envelope due to the band’s refreshing SoCal 420 culture, jazzy approach to self-conscious rap. Paying homage to their contribution to the culture, Brooklyn’s synth-pop producer Bit Funk has created a playful and uplifting rendition of their J Dilla-produced Labcabincalifornia-single “Runnin’.” While no one replaces the late and great Dilla behind the boards, the refix shall serve as catchy reminder of the The Pharcyde’s golden era.
