Despite previous reports, it turns out actor Joaquin Phoenix did not co-produce Pusha T‘s recently released “King Push” single. The confusion seems to have occurred due to the fact Phoenix introduced Pusha to the beat, and was mistakenly given credit for helping create in. After a few days of being listed as a producer alongside Kanye West, Joaquin cleared the air in a recent discussion with XXL, going on to say the following:
While it was widely reported that Pusha T used my beat and that I produced his song, I can’t take any credit. A friend’s son played me his music, and all I did was make an introduction to Kanye’s camp.
While there’s no further information on who this “friend’s son” is, on behalf of majority of the hip-hop community we all thank you. Hopefully more details surface on the whole story sooner than later, but let us know what your thoughts are on the track now.
