Since launching his eponymous label over four decades ago, the Luciano Barbera name has become synonymous with classic Italian style. While his textile company has a client list that includes industry stalwarts like Ralph Lauren and Armani, it’s his line of hand-tailored suits made from the finest raw materials and timeless silhouettes that has kept his name at the summit of menswear influencers for years. In bringing the Barbera line back to the Barneys New York showroom this fall, menswear EVP Tom Kalenderian invited the Italian master tailor and friends – ‘The Sartorialist’ Scott Shuman, Atrium’s Creative Director Nick Wooster, the clairvoyant Simon Doonan, and Publisher Wes Del Val – for a round table colloquy regarding men’s style. In this excerpt, each gent is given a specific region and asked to speak on its influences as well as its resident icons.
