Yet another triumph of Swedish design — the world’s first cloud speaker or OD-11 is an updated version of the iconic 1974 Carlsson OD-11 loudspeaker by Stig Carlsson. Reengineered by Stockholm-based Teenage Engineering and manufactured under license from the Stig Carlsson Foundation, the OD-11 caters for a new generation of cloud users. It offers the flexibility of playing music in the cloud with good sound quality and a minimalist interface, delivering a respectable 100 watts from its diminutive 10” cube. It also packs integrated Wi-Fi, a sound processor, a high-efficiency neodymium cone tweeter, and long throw pulp cone woofer. Its ingenious sidekick, the “Ortho remote” is a nifty magnetized wireless control knob using the latest Bluetooth 4 low-energy chip that will run for years on a single button cell battery. This elegantly clever piece is anticipated in summer at around $800 USD.
