Drama at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. During Saturday’s (September 29) taping for the annual BET’s 2012 Hip-Hop Awards festivities in Atlanta Rick Ross and Young Jeezy reportedly got into a shoving match backstage before the scuffle spilled outside into the parking lot. According to multiple sources, Ross’s protégé Gunplay was also involved in a physical altercation with members of 50 Cent‘s G-Unit camp. The Floridian rapper was seen with visible wounds and put into handcuffs and detained, although it is not clear whether Gunplay was arrested or not. As Daily News points out, there were no serious injuries reported or arrests, and despite reports to the contrary, no shots were fired, authorities said.
BET later issued a statement that read:
“BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”
On a brighter note, 50 Cent and Fat Joe, who have had their own tensions in the past to have put their differences aside for the moment as they too appeared on stage to honor their mutual friend Chris Lighty.
The 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards air October 9. Expect more details on last night to emerge until then.
