The best signatures are always those models that encapsulate the athlete’s essence in footwear form. Far from simply being another Frankenstein job of a hybrid sneaker, the new Nike SB Koston x Heritage was supervised by Eric Koston himself, whose hands-on approach made sure the details came out perfectly. A blend of the Eric Koston 1 and the self-professed sneaker junkie’s favorite running shoe, the new hybrid is the best of both worlds. Aesthetically, the shoe’s rubber back and heel details come courtesy of the Air Max 90, as do the enforced collar and seamwork — the swoosh has been noticeably modified. However, the SB Koston x Heritage remains a true performance shoe at heart, retaining the Lunarlon cushioning, traction and skate-ready attributes of the original Koston signature. The latest SB footwear model to pay homage to an iconic shoe, it will be very interesting to see what comes next from the innovators at Nike Skateboarding’s kitchen.
